Police Arrest 9 Suspects, Take 10 Guns Off Boston Streets In One Day
Two separate investigations led to multiple arrests, including three for assault and battery on a police officer.

BOSTON — Nine suspects were arrested Sunday and ten guns were removed from Boston streets following two Boston Police Department Youth Violence Strike Force Investigations in under 90 minutes.
Boston police first arrested two men around 4:30 p.m. near 540 Adams Street in Dorchester after officers tried to approach two suspects who they say immediately sprinted away. According to police, the officers chased the men and placed Donta Lewis, 28, of Boston, and Lamont Jacobs-Barrows, 21, of Walpole, in custody.
Officers were able to recover a gun that had been thrown by Lewis and two firearms that were thrown by Jacobs-Barrows during the arrests.

The officers said one of the guns recovered - a Glock 43 9mm with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine had been stolen from Manchester, N.H.
Both suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court at a later date.

Only 90 minutes later, members of the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested seven suspects around 6:15 p.m. and recovered seven firearms from the area of 17 Elizabeth Street in Mattapan, officers said.
According to Boston police, 20-year-old Tyshawn Carter was the target of this investigation, leading police on a small foot chase as he took off when officers approached him. Police say he discarded a gun into a parked car. Police say they were able to arrest Carter and secure the firearm.
"As the officers attempted to secure the suspect for transport, a large and unruly crowd began to gather around the arresting officers," the Boston Police Department said in a statement.
Three men were arrested on assault and battery charges on a police officer and disorderly conduct. They were identified as Tiana Grant-James, 26, of Dorchester, Akyla Palmer, 34, of Mattapan, and Giovanni Coley, 35, of Mattapan.
"Citywide units were called to help secure the scene at which time, six other firearms were located in the immediate area leading to the arrest of three more adult male suspects on firearm-related charges."
Three other suspects were arrested on firearm charges were identified as Devante Cheshire, 27, of Stoughton, Darnell Pierre, 31, of Mattapan, and Sabastian Fernandes, 20, of Dorchester.
All suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court at a later date for arraignment.
