BOSTON — Record-high temperatures were reached in Boston last weekend, and if trends keep going in that direction, they could hit the Bay State again this weekend - so be sure to break out that sunscreen.

Wednesday and Thursday are expected to feel like the average mid-May day, with sunshine and cooler winds bringing the average temperature range from the mid-60s to mid-70s. But by Friday, those numbers will start to climb in a sweatier direction.

These record highs are only a little early for Massachusetts, as our first 90-degree day last year was hit on May 23, two days shy of what we expect to hit this weekend.

The humidity is expected to take a toll though, sitting at almost 50 percent and with a very high UV index - Saturday might not be a bad first beach day of the season.

Tree pollen is also expected to be especially bad this week - with high levels lingering across the Bay State through the weekend, according to AccuWeather. Wind can carry pollen for miles, so the amount of the allergen in the air can drastically vary in each community.

AccuWeather suggests the following for the higher end of its pollen scale:

  • High: Keep your windows closed and change clothing after returning indoors.
  • Very high: Avoid outdoor activity in the early hours of the day and take any allergy medication to ease your symptoms.
  • Extreme: Ensure you take any allergy medication to ease your symptoms and avoid all outdoor activity.
