Red Sox Player Tests Positive; Team CEO Hopes Fans Return In 2020
Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy said some teams are even anticipating fans coming to ballparks at some point during the upcoming season.

Red Sox officials are hopeful for the return of fans to Fenway Park for what will be a historic, abbreviated season.
Team CEO Sam Kennedy told reporters Wednesday that some teams are anticipating the return of fans. While he didn't say the Red Sox were going that far, he made it clear it was a "a possibility."
"If it were to become a reality it would because of the great work the state of Massachusetts and the city of Boston have done," Kennedy said in an online call. "We are hopeful to have fans at some point. We need fans at Fenway Park. Our fans give us a competitive advantage."

Major gatherings, such as sporting events, won't be allowed until Massachusetts enters phase four of its reopening.
Some players are set to report to Fenway Park next Wednesday, and the season is scheduled to start July 23 or 24 after publicly acrimonious negotiations between the players' union and Major League Baseball.

The Red Sox also revealed one player on the 40-man roster recently tested positive for COVID-19. That player, who was not identified, was asymptomatic.
