Red Sox - Yankees Opening Day Postponed

The two rivals will now play their first game of the season against each other Friday instead of Thursday due to rainy weather in New York.

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox were set to play their first game of the season against their biggest rivals the New York Yankees on Thursday, but will now have to wait a day - due to a stormy weather forecast.

The game will now be played on Friday, April 8, at 1:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium. The gates will open at 11 a.m. Friday, with pregame ceremonies kicking off at 12:30 p.m.

Fans who bought tickets for Thursday's game may use them for the rescheduled game on Friday or exchange them for tickets to a similarly priced game at Yankee Stadium this season. Fans holding complimentary tickets or those holding tickets obtained via the Commissioner's Initiative for Kids must use them for the rescheduled game on Friday, April 8.

The Sox's home opener at Fenway Park will still be played on April 15 against the Minnesota Twins at 2:10 p.m.
