Boston police say one of the kids assaulted an officer near the McDonald's in Downtown Crossing, kicking him in the genitals.

BOSTON — Three kids, aged 11, 12, and 13, were arrested after police said they attacked employees and customers at a McDonald's in Boston over the weekend.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Boston police responded to a call about a fight at the McDonald's at 301 Warren Street in Downtown Crossing.

Once officers arrived, they saw two girls and a boy screaming outside the fast-food restaurant. They told police that an employee had thrown a drink at the group following an argument.

According to a police report, one of the kids threw a cup filled with coke at an employee through a drive-thru window, and another ran into the lobby, saying the situation escalated when "one of the juveniles punched an employee in the face." Another worker called 911, but the employee denied any medical treatment, police said.

Police say the employees told them they retaliated by throwing the items back at them in an effort to get them to leave, including a cup and bottle of chocolate syrup. Police got to the scene and separated the group, sending the kids home.

Almost an hour later, police say the kids returned, swinging a metal cane and threatening to strike an employee, prompting a second police response that sent them running off. Police say they were found on the corner of Warren and Edgewood Streets.

According to the report, one of the kids started calling one of the officers derogatory names, making a "gesture as if she was going to swing at the officer."

Police say they then attempted to apprehend the kids, but the report claims that "one of the juveniles hit an officer and kicked another in the genitals."

The kids were taken into custody early Monday morning and later released to their parents. The two girls will face charges in juvenile court and the 11-year-old boy is not being charged because he is too young, police said.

None of the kids involved could be identified because of their age.

Police believe this attack could be linked to another incident in Downtown Crossing last week.

According to investigators, a video shows five juveniles, the youngest about 12 years old, kicking and punching a woman who is about 20 years old. Witnesses told police that as many as 20 teenagers swarmed the victim before the unprovoked attack. The victim told police she was kicked and punched by the group for wearing her hair in braids. Five teenage girls are now facing charges.
