Red Line Delays During Tuesday Commute: Update

MBTA says fire department activity stalled Red Line; moderate delays continue.

BOSTON, MA — The Mass. Bay Transit Authority is reporting persistent, moderate delays on the Red Line Tuesday evening, after fire department activity earlier.

According to an MBTA alert around 5 p.m., the delays are due to "fire department activity." A previous alert reported moderate delays on the same line, due to a track problem. Just before 5:30 p.m., the MBTA sent a third alert saying the fire department activity is done, but "moderate delays" persist.

Initial reports suggest the problem, possibly a track fire, was at the JFK/UMass station.
