State Police Officers Destroyed Evidence: Reports
The destruction of evidence in a pending criminal case has sparked another internal investigation, the Boston Globe is reporting.

BOSTON — There's another internal investigation into the state police department after it was revealed that agency officials destroyed evidence in a pending criminal case, the Boston Globe reported.
In June, a judge ordered State Police to return an antique gun to its owner after the police confiscated it at Logan Airport security. But the agency had already destroyed it, along with seven others seized at the airport in recent years, according to the Globe.
“I have serious questions about the way evidence is being handled,” the judge told the commander of Troop F, during a Jan. 23 hearing about why the antique gun was destroyed, the Globe reported.

Internal State Police inspections have noted problems with record-keeping on logs troopers use to track evidence across the state, the Globe reported. And the investigation comes as the agency has been in the middle of an overtime pay scandal that has so far led to criminal charges against 10 former and current troopers.
