Suspect in Weekend Hit-And-Run Held on Bail

An allegedly drunk driver behind the wheel of a new rental car struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday, according to State Police.

BOSTON, MA — The suspect in a fatal Saturday night hit-and-run appeared in court Tuesday, where he was held on a $5,000 bail and put under restrictions that included an order to remain alcohol-free.

Anthony E. Buchanan, a 39-year-old from Dorchester, faces a litany of charges stemming from the fatal incident this weekend, which took the life of a 46-year-old Johnette Sims, also of Dorchester.

Massachusetts State Police said they arrested Buchanan after he turned himself in early Sunday morning. They charged him with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor; leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury or death; speeding; and marked lanes violation.
