Town Sends Wrong Mail-In Ballot Ahead Of Primary: Patch PM

Some Brookline voters were mailed the wrong ballots for the upcoming state primary, Town Administrator Mel Kleckner confirmed late Wednesday night. Although the town has had to resend some 30 ballots to voters, it's not clear just how many of the 7,000 ballots the town has sent were incorrect.
So now the town is asking that any Brookline voters who requested and received mail-in ballots recently in the mail check to ensure they've received the primary ballot for the party they requested.

Officials said they are working "aggressively" to investigate and correct the problem before the state primary Sept. 1.
"We regret this error and are working collaboratively with the Secretary of State's Office to understand how it happened and are committed to correcting it to ensure that every voter who wishes to vote in the upcoming state primary is able to do so," Kleckner said in a statement.

Five Cape Cod beaches have been closed to swimmers after great white shark sightings were reported in the area, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.
According to the conservancy's mobile app, swimmers were ordered out of the water for at least an hour at Newcomb Hollow Beach and Maguire Landing Beach in Wellfleet, Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, Nauset Beach in Orleans and Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.
The conservancy posted video of one of its shark biologists, Greg Skomal, tagging a white shark Thursday morning off of Naucet beach.
Saugus Man Charged With Attempted Murder After 3 Officers Stabbed
Three Saugus police officers are expected to recover after they were stabbed Thursday morning while investigating a U-Haul rental that wasn't returned.
Steven Sossong was arrested by the injured officers in his Tuttle Street home. Sossong, 43, was charged with three counts of attempted murder at his afternoon arraignment.
Sossong was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Barnstable School Committee Votes To Retire Red Raider Mascot
The committee agreed to move on from a mascot many deemed offensive and will now seek student and community input for a new mascot and logo.
Police said the child suffered serious injuries and was taken via MedFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital.
