A Transportation Blind Spot?: The HUB
Plus: We're talking about a tragedy on Taft Street, accusations of racism and sexism and supply surpassing demand.

The HUB is a rundown of the stories people in Boston are talking about. Patch publishes the HUB every weekday.
Good morning, Boston! Today is Tuesday, May 4. We're talking about a tragedy on Taft Street, accusations of racism and sexism and supply surpassing demand.
But first...
Boston Reddit can be an interesting place to spend some time. Some on it were miffed yesterday after a post surfaced blaming Logan Airport for "leaving people stranded waiting hours for taxis." The post is accompanied by a photo of what appears to be dozens of people waiting for a lift back home at 1 a.m.

I'm not quite sure what Logan's supposed to do here. Taxis weren't exactly flooding the streets before the pandemic, and now with no bars open and spotty travel they're supposed to be at the ready after midnight?
But the reason I bring this up is to note ever-evolving travel habits — even ones that trickle down to impact things like how people get home after taking the red eye back to Boston. Have you noticed a recent downturn in rideshare options? Should the MBTA be running 24/7? What's the best solution for these people getting home?

Transportation policy is not my strong suit, but from a layman's perspective, it's weird to think that even in 2021, transportation has so many blind spots. Coming back to Logan at 1 a.m. is apparently one of them.

Prosecutors in court yesterday detailed the horror that greeted police at a Dorchester apartment over the weekend. Two children, ages 7 and 8, showed officers where their mother struggled for her final breaths across from where another woman lay stabbed to death. A dog was also found with a stab wound. Outside the home was the man accused of killing the women, covered in blood and distraught. Marcus Chavis was held without bail at his arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court. He lived at the home with his wife, Fatima Yasin, their children and Jahaira DeAlto, who The Boston Globe reported worked on domestic violence prevention for local organizations. Three reporters at The Globe have more on the tragedy on Taft Street.
A city councilor and mayoral candidate called attacks against her from the Boston police union racist and sexist. Andrea Campbell told GBH Sunday that the tweet from the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association was representative of an attitude that is "beyond unprofessional." GBH described what the union's tweet appears to imply, so you can check it out there.
For months, it was a question of supply meeting demand. Now the issue is getting demand to meet supply. As the state shifts its vaccination strategy to target harder-to-reach areas — including those more hesitant to getting the vaccine — some mass vaccination sites like the one at Hynes will close. WCVB has more on what that means for those who have yet to be vaccinated in Boston and beyond.
What I'm reading today: I finally caught "Tenet," though the HBO Max offering on my Samsung probably falls short of the glory of IMAX. Anyways, I'm reading some of the reviews of the divisive Christopher Nolan blockbuster that wasn't — a gotta-see-it-in-theaters offering that no one saw in theaters due to the pandemic. I think some of the criticism was a touch unfair, but goodness was this thing unnecessarily confounding.
