Tropical Storm Fay is still headed toward Massachusetts, but the brunt of it will miss the central and eastern parts of the state.

A Friday morning update from the National Weather Service removed the flash flood watch from Worcester to Boston, leaving it up only in western Massachusetts.

"The heavier rain in our area will be western MA/CT, and the best chance of flooding issues may remain west of southern New England," the NWS said.

The center of the storm is expected to pass over the western part of the state late Friday night into early Saturday morning. East of there will still get rain — especially overnight — but the total is expected to be far less than what was initially thought possible. Some strong wind gusts are likely to accompany the rain.

"Tropical Storm Fay will impact at least some of the waters sometime this afternoon into Saturday," the NWS said. "However, there remains a great deal of uncertainty as to its strength and exact track."
