BOSTON — Victor Pena, the man who has been accused of abducting a woman from a Boston bar earlier this year - a story that made headlines across the nation - was indicted on kidnapping and aggravated rape charges, the Suffolk County Grand Jury announced Thursday.

The Suffolk County Grand Jury indicted Pena with one count of kidnapping and 10 counts of aggravated rape, saying that he held a 23-year-old woman against her will and sexually assaulted her at his Walford Way home in January.

The indictments will move Pena’s case from Charlestown Municipal Court to Suffolk Superior Court. His Superior Court arraignment is tentatively expected on March 20.

Pena, 38, of Charlestown, underwent a mental competency evaluation following his arrest in January in the woman's disappearance. His attorney told reporters earlier this month at Charlestown District Court it looked like he would be fit to stand trial. Pena's brother described his brother as mentally slow.

Pena was ordered held without bail and was taken to the Nashua Street Jail after his pretrial court appearance earlier this month.
