FAA Investigating Delayed Flight Caused By Winthrop Teens
An American Airlines flight to the Bahamas was reportedly delayed because a group of teenagers from Winthrop refused to wear masks.
BOSTON — The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating an American Airlines flight from Boston to the Bahamas after the airline delayed the flight overnight.
American Airlines reported that a group of more than 30 people became disruptive when they were catching a connecting flight in Charlotte, North Carolina, and refused to put on their masks, ultimately causing the flight to be delayed on Monday.
American Airlines flight 893 was scheduled to leave Charlotte around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, arriving in Nassau around 11:45 a.m, after first being delayed due to a mechanical issue.

After boarding, a spokesperson from American Airlines says the group became disruptive. They were asked many times to put their masks back on as part of the federal mask-wearing mandate due to the coronavirus but refused.
According to the CDC, "All passengers on public conveyances traveling into, within, or out of the United States, as well as conveyance operators, regardless of their vaccination status, are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth."

The group was told multiple times that the flight would resume as soon as their masks were put on, but still, they refused, eventually causing flight 893 to be delayed.
The Boston Globe reported that the teenagers had to spend the night in the airport because they were too young to use the hotel vouchers provided by the airline.
The airline said the flight was delayed overnight, causing quite a headache for the passengers who were complying with regulations. The flight eventually left Charlotte shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, arriving in the Bahamas at 11:02 a.m.
