2018 Braintree Election Primary Results

Find out who is moving on to November's general election.

BRAINTREE, MA — If you were expecting any surprises in Braintree during the 2018 primary election, you were surely disappointed.

As expected, Republican Governor Charlie Baker soundly defeated Scott Lively. He will face the winner of the Democratic primary, Jay Gonzalez. In Braintree, Baker won 1,403 votes to 974. Gonzalez, who beat Bob Massie, took Braintree 1,550 to 1,030.

In one of the more anticipated races, Secretary of State William Galvin beat Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim. Braintree went with the state, with Galvin winning 1,929 to 608.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren will face the winner of the Republican Primary, state Rep. Geoff Diehl. The Whitman Republican took Braintree with 1,685 votes to John Kington's 421 and Beth Lindstrom's 232.

Democratic Congressman Stephen Lynch held off pair of primary challenges from Brianna Wu and Christopher Voehl. Lynch received 2,685 votes from Braintree residents, Wu received 516, and Voehl finished third with 202. The Republicans will not field an opponent for the general election.

Democratic state senators Walter Timilty and John Keenan had no opponents in their primary races and no Republican challengers for the general election.

Democratic state representative Mark Cusack is through to the general election unopposed. No Republican candidates awaits him.
