After Fatal Fire, Braintree Councilor Organizes Smoke Detector Event
The "Sound the Alarm, Save a Life" event will be held later this month, offering residents a free smoke and carbon monoxide detector.

News release from Braintree Councilor Meredith Boericke.
BRAINTREE, MA — Councilor Meredith Boericke, in collaboration with The American Red Cross, Mayor Joyce, and the Braintree Fire Department, is pleased to announce the "Sound the Alarm, Save a Life" event to be held on May 18, 2024, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Residents who register will receive FREE smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, along with in-home installation. No pick up is required.
Braintree’s District 5 Town Councilor, Meredith Boericke, spearheaded the initiative after a fatal fire occurred on her street at the end of 2023. “After my wonderful friend and neighbor, Sean Sullivan, perished in a house fire on December 30, 2023, I felt compelled to do something to prevent another needless death, and raise awareness that smoke detectors save lives”, Boericke said. The State Fire Marshal's Office said investigators found no working smoke alarms inside Mr. Sullivan’s Hobart Avenue home. Councilor Boericke has partnered with Mayor Joyce’s office, the Braintree Fire Department and the American Red Cross to supply smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, along with installation, at no cost to Braintree residents. The event is part of the American Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm Campaign, which has saved more than 2,000 lives since its inception in 2014.
