Amazon Coming To Braintree

Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced Monday that the e-commerce giant has agreed to lease 200,000 square feet of warehouse space.

BRAINTREE, MA — Amazon has plans to move into a warehouse in Braintree, the mayor announced at Monday night's town council meeting.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan told the council that the e-commerce giant has agreed to lease 200,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space on Campanelli Drive.

"This agreement by one of the world’s largest, most innovative and successful businesses has tremendous potential to draw other companies to our region – other businesses look at Amazon’s business model and the heights of success it as achieved and will look to emulate its strategic and long-term moves. We are well positioned to take advantage of their success," Sullivan wrote in his remarks to the town council.

The plan still needs planning board approval.

The announcement came the night before Amazon revealed Tuesday's that they plan on adding 2,000 tech jobs to their planned office in the Seaport District.

Boston is also a finalist for the company's second headquarters, meaning Amazon could have a much larger area presence in the near future.
