Braintree Eliminated From Little League World Series After Historic Season

The team lost a heartbreaker in a Sunday elimination game. Back home, support for the historic team has only grown.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree American Little League's historic season has come to an end after a weekend loss to Washington in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

After an opening game loss to the team from South Carolina, Braintree defeated the roster from Texas, keeping its championship hopes alive. However, a nail-biter loss to the team from Washington on Sunday has eliminated Braintree from championship contention.

The loss will not put a damper on the team's reception back home, where locals filled SouthSide Tavern and other watch parties to support the little leaguers.

It is all but confirmed that the town will celebrate the team's accomplishment with a parade.

"We. Are. Proud," town officials said in a message to the team on social medcia. "Thank you Braintree American for putting Braintree, Massachusetts on the world stage. Enjoy the rest of your time in Williamsport team. Party starts when you get home."

SouthSide Tavern, the local haunt that became the unofficial gathering spot for the world series, and which offered a menu of specials dedicated to the roster, also shared their support for the team.

"Braintree American Little League’s historic season may be over, but our pride isn’t," restaurant officials said. "What a summer—every pitch, every hustle, every moment you gave your all. We couldn’t be more proud of this team."
