Braintree Man Busted for Shoplifting and Car Break-ins

The following information was supplied by the Braintree Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 29-year-old Braintree man was arrested last Wednesday and after allegedly passing a bad check and shoplifting at Nordstrom and stealing from cars.

Police arrested Patrick M. Kenney initially after he wrote the bad check and allegedly stole $265 in merchandise from the store, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

Along with the merchandise and checkbook, belonging to a Hingham man, police found a checkbook belonging to a Hingham man and a Ford folder containing vehicle registrations from several vehicles registered to Braintree residents and residents from other communities, Jenkins said.

A subsequent search of Kenney's vehicle also turned up the following allegedly stolen goods: a Garmin G.P.S. unit and an iPhone charger that a neighbor of Kenney’s was in the process of reporting stolen out of her vehicle.

"It was later determined that the owner of the checkbook was the victim
of a recent housebreak," Jenkins said. "On Thursday, another neighbor of Kenney’s reported that her car had also been broken into. She later identified a Tom Tom G.P.S. recovered from Kenney’s car as being her property."

Kenney was charged with larceny over $250, receiving stolen property over
$250, receiving stolen property under $250, forgery and passing a forged document.

Additional charges may be forthcoming, Jenkins said.
