Braintree Mayor Pens Letter Ahead Of Budget-Focused Special Election
Here's what Mayor Erin Joyce had to say about Braintree's upcoming budget decision.

A Message from Mayor Joyce
Our Annual Town meeting is the official time in which the Town Council reviews and approves the Mayor’s FY25 Budget which was first presented by Mayor Joyce to the Council on April 30th. If you have been following along this month with the Ways and Means Committee of the Town Council you’ve watched the hard work of our councilors in reviewing Mayor Joyce's budget department by department to understand the challenges and opportunities identified during the budget process for next year. Mayor Joyce has stated many times during this year’s budget season, Braintree is in a financial hole and we need to stop digging – so this year’s budget does reflect an element of cutting town-wide services (to the tune of $10M) and a proposed element of new revenue generated through a tax override (to the tune of $8M) to get us on better footing for the years ahead. The Town Council meeting can be viewed live at https://www.youtube.com/@BCAMTV
Mayor Joyce would also like to raise your awareness to our upcoming Special Election on Saturday June 15th – the Special Election is being held to offer voters a chance to weigh in on an operational override of $8M to support town-wide services including schools, public safety and DPW. We are hopeful that with a successful override the Town of Braintree will be on sustainable path forward and we look forward to allowing voters a chance to weigh in on our future. Normal polling locations at the High School, South Middle School and East Middle School will be open from 7am-8pm on Saturday June 15th. For details or questions regarding the budget or the special election – please feel free to reach out to the Mayor’s office at Town Hall.
