Braintree Residents Reporting New Scam. Here's How To Spot It

Scammers posing as officials from the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office have targeted Braintree residents, officials said.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree residents have received calls from people claiming to be with the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office. Police say it's a scam.

"We’ve received an uptick from residents reporting scam calls pretending to be from the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office," police said. "The scammers are reporting to residents they’re subject to arrest because they missed jury duty and request payment to avoid arrest."

Of course, you can't pay your way out of jury duty. Additionally, police say calls like these should always be met with skepticism.

"Residents should always be suspicious when receiving unsolicited calls from people claiming to be from agency’s requesting payment," police said.
