BRAINTREE, MA — The Motel 6 on Union Street has remained empty in the months after a shooting which left a guest dead and a police officer wounded, but developers are eyeing the property, according to Mayor Joseph Sullivan.
Sullivan told the Patriot Ledger that there is a lot of interest in redevelopment and the problem is not the location, but the operator.
Motel 6 lost their license to operate at a July 2017 board of health hearing. Board members were not swayed by the motel's proposal to renovate the building. Motel 6 has since appealed the decision in Norfolk Superior Court and was denied a preliminary injunction. The case remains pending in court.

The motel was known for years of problems, with the last straw coming May 5 when Officer Donald Delaney was shot while attempting to enter a room for a warrant arrest. The person in the room, Tizaya Jordan Robinson of Dorchester, was found dead a short time later.
Delaney and the other officers involved in the incident have since returned to work.
