BRAINTREE, MA — After a week of meeting other ballplayers from across the globe and participating in the opening festivities of a global event, Braintree American Little League is ready to take the field today.
In last week's New England regional, Braintree beat the team representing New Hampshire in extra innings 3-2, closing out a dominant showing in the tournament.
Now, they'll play on Thursday for the team's opening game of the Little League World Series in Williamsport. The team made its way to Pennsylvania on Friday for opening festivities.

The team will face the representatives from the Southeast region at 3 p.m. on Thursday in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN. That team hails from Irmo, South Carolina.
Back home, the team has occupied the space of local legends as many little league teams across the country have done by punching a ticket to the world series.

At SouthSide Tavern, which hosted a watch party for the championship game, menu items throughout this week will be named in honor of the little league roster.
Two teammates will get the spotlight each day with special menu items during the runup to the world series, restaurant officials said.
SouthSide will again stream the game for patrons on Thursday.
