In 2015, Brad was doing heroin in the parking lot of a Cumberland Farms. Thanks to a chat with a police officer, he's sober and doing well.

BRAINTREE, MA — It was about three years ago the Braintree Police Department received a call for a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Washington Street Cumberland Farms. It was there offices found a US Marine and combat veteran who just injected himself with heroin.

Recently, Officer Peter Gillis was presented the man only identified as Brad with his three-year sobriety medallion. According to police, Brad at the time was "having run-ins with the police, using heroin every day, and out of options."

During that response, Brad and an office talked for about a half hour about addiction, tours in Iraq, and recovery options.
