BRAINTREE, MA — Korean corn dogs are coming to Braintree in the near future with the expansion of a growing restaurant franchise.

Kong Dog, the growing franchise which started in Illinois and opened a location in Somerville in 2022, is expanding into Braintree, according to their website.

It appears that the new location will be at the South Shore Plaza, as the mall's website features the restaurant with a "coming soon" tag.

The website also states that other Massachusetts locations are on the docket as well, including at Quincy Market, in Peabody and in Providence, Rhode Island.

Korean corn dogs have been on the rise in recent years thanks to the internet and a number of high profile South Korean chefs turning the classic corn dog into something more.

Toppings can include anything from diced potatoes to sugar to ramen and more, and restaurants have been popping up across the country.

At Kong Dog specifically, the menu features a churro-style dog, a rainbow dog coated with fruity rice puffs and savory options featuring Hot Cheetos, Doritos and more.

Fillings typically include some form of sausage, mozzarella cheese or a combination of both.
