MBTA Announces Red Line Work For June: What It Means For Braintree
Signal upgrade work is scheduled for another weekend in June, something MBTA officials hope will improve scheduling reliability.

BRAINTREE, MA — Those hoping to catch the Red Line from Braintree this weekend were met with free shuttle bus service instead.
That's part of scheduled work from the MBTA, which will pop up again later this month.
Red Line Braintree Branch service between Braintree and JFK/UMass will be replaced with free and accessible shuttle bus service during the weekend of June 14 – 15.

Free and accessible shuttle bus service will make all stops between Braintree and JFK/UMass, and officials said riders should expect extra traveling time than usual.
Alternatively, riders can use the Fall River/New Bedford, Kingston, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines for fare-free service between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass and South Station. Commuter Rail schedules are available on mbta.com.

The service change is in place to accomplish signal upgrade work on the Red Line, officials said. By upgrading its signals, the MBTA expects to significantly increase operational efficiency and improve scheduling reliability for all riders, they added.
