Parent Charged With Bringing Gun To Ross School Due In Court

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree parent charged with bringing a gun to Ross Elementary School Friday is expected to appear in court Monday.

Matthew Vacher, 36, was arrested Friday and will likely face charges of carrying a firearm on school grounds and failure to properly secure a firearm Monday in Quincy District Court.

Police said in a statement Friday that they received a call from a person who was concerned about the well-being of a family member who is the parent of a student at Ross Elementary. At the recommendation of Braintree Police, the school went into lockdown after officers informed school officials.

The parent, identified as Vacher, stayed in the main office with the principal until police arrived to remove him. He was transported to South Shore Hospital and arrested after his release.

After the parent was removed, police found a weapon in a backpack that the parent had brought into the school. At no time while the parent was in the school did they threaten anyone or state that they had a weapon.

The lockdown was lifted and school returned to its normal schedule once the parent was removed from the building.

Vacher was at the school for a legitimate reason and has a license to carry, according to court documents.
