School Committee Recommends Level Service Budget
The committee voted Monday to recommend a $67.24 million budget for fiscal year 2019.

BRAINTREE, MA — The school committee will send a level service budget to the town council next week.
The committee voted Monday to recommend a $67.24 million budget for fiscal year 2019, an increase of 3.9 percent over last year's budget.
Superintendent Frank Hackett said the budget rolls forward everything the school district is obligated to provide and allows them to look at some additional items.

"This is a good budget, it's a solid budget, it's a tight budget. I think we've done a really good job of making sure that we're directing the funds where they need to go. We're working hard with the town to make sure we're not carrying anything we don't need to carry," Hackett said.
Mayor Joseph Sullivan said he accepted the recommendation of the committee.

The budget will be presented to the town council as part of the municipal budget Monday. The figures are not final and could change once the school district's state aid total is determined.
School officials are expected to discuss the budget with the town council's ways and means committee, which usually spends May vetting the town budget.
