BROOKLINE, MA —Boston magazine recognized three Brookline businesses with awards this year, including Children's Book Shop, Alden Castle and Boston General Store in Coolidge Corner.

Each year the magazine has its team of judges scour the area in search of businesses that qualify as superlative.

The Children's Book Shop took the "Best Children's Bookstore" in the services category. Wondering about The Brookline Booksmith? This year Frugal Bookstore in Nubian Square in Roxbury edged the regional favorite out. Alden Castle was awarded "Best Ballroom Venue" in the wedding section and Coolidge Corner's Boston General Store took home "Best Desk Accessories," in the home section.

It’s easy to feel like royalty at this circa-1924 Tudor-style manse, which boasts two spectacular event spaces worthy of any stately soiree.

The Children's Book Shop on Washington Street:

With 28,000-plus titles exclusively for kids, imaginations are guaranteed to run wild at this local literary treasure.

The Boston General Store on Harvard Street:

Tired of the shabby tape dispenser and legal pad you swiped from the office? Boston General Store ... hawks supplies you’ll want to keep right on your desktop—not bury in a drawer. Traveler’s notebooks will reinvigorate your daily punch lists, while the sharp Italian-made Ellepi Klizia stapler was practically designed for those video-call close-ups.
