Illegal Fireworks Cause Boston Fire: 20 Displaced, $1M In Damage
Boston Fire Department officials said the fire was caused by illegal fireworks.
BOSTON — Illegal fireworks caused a fire at two homes in Dorchester that displaced 20 people early Friday. Not long after July 4 celebrations ended, a fire ripped through a two-family home on Everett Street in Dorchester. Fire officials said there were no injuries, but estimated that the fire caused $1 million in damages.
Around 1:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a call on Mount Everett Street and found flames pouring from the porches of a home at 41 Everett St. It spread to 39 Everett St, as well, they said. Firefighters immediately called for a second and then third alarm.
Shortly after, the porches collapsed and as crews worked to put out the fire they called for more help, bringing the level of the fire up to four alarms.
