MassDEP has advised people with heart or lung disease, asthma, and other vulnerable groups to limit outdoor activities.

BROOKLINE, MA – Norfolk counties, including Brookline, and eastern Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket, Bristol, Plymouth and are under an air quality alert Thursday, April 13 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has announced.

MassDEP has advised people in sensitive groups – such as those with heart or lung disease, asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who are active outdoors – to reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor activities, take more breaks, do less intense activities, follow asthma action plans, and keep quick relief medicine handy.

MassDEP has also declared an Open Burning Advisory for today across the state and has notified local fire departments that open burning permits are not to be issued today because air pollution levels are predicted to be elevated.

Any open burning today would cause and contribute to a condition of air pollution and likely result in further elevating ozone concentrations.

Temperatures were expected to reach into the 80s across the state Thursday with plenty of sun, according to forecasts.
