Allandale Farm Workers Union Launches First Contract Campaign

The Allandale Workers Union at Allandale Farm in Brookline is calling for better wages, safer working conditions, and better benefits.

BROOKLINE, MA – The Allandale Workers Union, a union of retail workers at Allandale Farm in Brookline, have launched their first union contract campaign this month.

“We’re fighting for a first contract that will give the crew a seat at the table, a decent standard of living, and make Allandale a better farm for crew and customers alike,” the union wrote on their campaign platform page.

Among the top issues union members are calling for are fairer wages, access to basic health and dental benefits, increased workplace safety, and more job security for seasonal work.

“We have people who’ve missed rent payments, people who work two jobs, and people who are on food assistance,” Allandale Workers Union members wrote on their campaign platform website. “We also have students who are dealing with high tuition costs. Fair wages are one of our top priorities.”

Another top priority for workers was workplace safety according to the campaign platform page, with union members calling for all operators of power equipment to be qualified to use the equipment, better access to PPE, and for pest problems to be dealt with to prevent worker injuries.

“These are real challenges, but worker safety is worth it,” according to the campaign platform website.

The Union has also created a petition to spread awareness about their first campaign platform and explain their desires for improvement.
