Why are you running for a school committee seat this year?
I saw an opportunity to serve our community as a parent and resident of almost 9 years. I want to bring a different perspective to the school committee as a stay-at-home parent who is very involved in their child’s education.
What's one thing you'd like to achieve in 2023 if elected to the school committee?
In my one year as a committee member I would refocus our efforts on recruiting teachers of color so that the teachers better reflect our student population.
What's one thing lacking in Brookline schools that you would like to see change?
One of my main goals is expanding BEEP into a Universal PreK program. This would include expanding the day to 2:30 and eliminating the tuition required to operate the program. This will take time and support from the state but it should be possible.
What's something the district does well, and how would you support that as a member of the committee?
The committee starts every meeting by celebrating successes and I think it’s important to recognize areas where students are achieving. One such area is the world language program which I would push to maintain if the override doesn’t pass. I would obviously look to collaborate with the other committee members but I would also hope to bring a fresh perspective to the discussions.
