Brookline DPW Says Skyline Park's New Turf Field Is Open For Business
Officials said the field was finished in an "expeditious fashion" and will be home to BHS varsity teams and other youth and adult sports.

BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline Department of Public Works (DPW) announced Tuesday that Skyline Park's new synthetic turf field was open for play.
The park, located at 815 Newton St., Chestnut Hill, will be used by Brookline High School varsity sports teams, recreation and club leagues, adult and youth sports groups and the community-at-large, according to officials.
The Town of Brookline said the field was finished in an "expeditious fashion" in order to ensure that it would be ready for the fall 2023 season.

"This field renovation puts Brookline on the cutting edge of synthetic turf technology and is a project we are immensely proud of," said Erin Chute, commissioner of the DPW.
Brookline officials explained that a thorough research and planning process took place in order to ensure that the best products were used in the construction of the new turf field.

"We realize that projects like this require a great deal of thought, research and consideration of various user groups," said Alexandra Vecchio, director of the Parks and Open Space Division of the DPW. "We are grateful to the Brookline community and the entire project team for helping us consider which products would meet both the needs of field user groups and have the least impact on the environment."
Officials said the new turf is a product called Greenfields Iron turf, which is made in the USA, recyclable at the end of life and Cradle to Cradle Certified.
Meanwhile, the infill product used in the turf is BrockFill, which is sustainably grown in the U.S., 100 percent recyclable at the end of life and Cradle to Cradle Certified. BrockFill also reduces heat by up to 40 degrees, officials said.
The Town of Brookline said the planning for the next phase of the Skyline Park improvement project already is underway. Phase 2 is expected to include the proposed connection to Lost Pond, repairs to the comfort station and additional tree plantings and site furnishings.
Officials said the public is invited to participate in the remote design review process for the next phase of the project. The next Zoom meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14. More information about taking part in the planning process is available online.
