Brookline High School Graduation 2013

Send us your pictures of graduation! Conrads to 2013!

On a gorgeous early summer day, Brookline High School hosted that 171st graduation on Cypress Feild.

Four hundred and thirty five seniors graduated on Sunday, June 9. Brookline High also honored the class of 1963, who celebrated their 50th anniversary.

During his speech, School Committee Chairperson Alan Morse told the seniors that in 1963, “a new Ford cost $2,500, bread was $.40, a 6-pack of Budweiser was $.80, Terry Francona hit consecutive homeruns in the same inning, George Wallace was elected on the ‘Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever’ slogan, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech and President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.”

But Morse encouraged the exiting senior class to go forth with courage. “You’ll always represent Brookline, a unique place to live and learn,” Morse said. “We wish you God speed and salute you.”

Student speaker Tyrone Rose read a letter he would have written to himself on his first day of freshman year. His advice was simple, but direct: “Stepping out of your comfort zone is a valuable experience.”
