Brookline High School Student Petitions for More Science Classes

A Brookline High student is petitioning the Town of Brookline.

A Brookline High School student wants seniors to be able to take more science classes in their senior year. Daniel Mirny launched a petition hoping to get enough support for changes in the way students select the subjects that interest them.

“Since my summer before Freshman year, I have been looking forward to the Science classes and electives offered to Seniors at Brookline High School. Yet this next year it appears, they are being taken away from me,” Mirny wrote in the petition. “I had the intention of exploring my interests further and taking more than one science. Yet due to the new policy, I am unable to do this, and because of this not only will I suffer in the short term, but I will suffer in the long term, and so will Brookline High School.

Mirny wrote that students from all over the world are competing for placement in the finest American universities, and that the inability to take more than one science class is putting BHS seniors at a disadvantage. “When I came to BHS I was told that what this school is all about is feeding our interests,” Mirny wrote. “I was promised the opportunity to learn more about what I am most interested in, and I was proud to attend a school that offers me so many choices.”
