At 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, the School Committee and Select Board will hold a joint convention to conduct interviews with candidates for the position. A decision on a new committee member could be made that night, according to officials.

The School Committee's primary responsibilities include: the evaluation of the superintendent of schools, the review and approval of budgets for education, and establishing educational goals and policies for The Public Schools of Brookline.

According to Brookline.news, Rhei-Gorer resigned to spend more time closer to her son, who attends high school in a different state.

"Making the decision to leave was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made," Rhei-Gorer told the publication. "I think the School Committee, the mix that we have right now, is amazing. These people are dedicated, and their agenda is just for the betterment of Brookline Public Schools."
