Brookline Man Jumps Atop Police Car, Runs Off, Chase Ensues: PD
The original call came in for a report of a man throwing a brick at a door, according to Brookline police.

BROOKLINE, MA — After chasing a man who jumped on a police cruiser and then tried to evade them by swimming across the Muddy River, police arrested a Brookline man and charged him with a littany of crimes, including vandalism and assault and battery on a police officer early Monday morning.
Just before 1:30 a.m., a Village Way resident called police to report someone had thrown a brick door at his front door. When police got there, they saw a large piece of asphalt in the entryway of the townhouse. The man who called police said he'd been in the kitchen preparing his daughter's lunch for school, when he heard a loud thump, he opened his front door to check outside and saw a man, later idenfied as Amon Pina, 32, of Village Way standing about 20 feet away. The man told police the two didn't say anything to one another, but when he closed the door behind him, he hard a loud bang,
When he noticed the chunk of asphalt on the ground in the entryway, he said he realized the man had thrown the asphalt in an attempt to hit him, so he called 911.

Around 1:33 a.m. an officer radioed to Brookline Control that he believed he had Pina located at the corner of Brookline Ave and Parkway Road. Police said Pina then jumped onto the hood, damaging the hood and the windshield.
Pina then took off toward the Emerald Necklace along the Muddy River, with four officers running after him, according to a report. Before reaching Netherlands Road, Pina jumped into the river, where he proceeded to swim to the opposite side, police said.

One officer maneuvered her cruiser ahead of the foot pursuit on Netherlands Road in an attempt to intercept Pina and was able to get to the opposite side of the Muddy River before he got out of the water.
The officer told Pina to get on the ground, but when he didn't listen, she drew her pepper spray and told him that if he did not get on the ground she'd spray him. He got on the ground, but resisted arrest kicking at an officer, according to the police report.
As officers were carrying him to a police cruiser, Pina began to complain of chest pains, and Fallon Ambulance was dispatched, and he was evaluated and then taken for medical treatment, where police said he continued to be aggressive, police said.
Police said Pina is being charged with the following:
- M.G.L. Ch. 265 § 15B Assault with a dangerous weapon - For attempting a battery on by using a heavy chunk of asphalt, thrown with force
- M.G.L. Ch. 265 § 13D Assault and Battery on a Police Officer - For kicking Officer Burke, who was in full Brookline Police uniform, with an unshod foot while being pat frisked in police custody.
- M.G.L Ch. 268 § 32B Resisting Arrest - By fleeing across the Muddy River, then actively and aggressively resisting while Officers Burke and Miczek placed him in custody and escorted him to the cruiser.
- M.G.L. Ch. 272 § 53 Disorderly Conduct - By causing a public annoyance and alarm through agitated behavior in slamming his front door and throwing a chunk of asphalt, which caused to check on his neighbor's wellbeing and cause 6 year old daughter to wake from her sleep.
- M.G.L. Ch. 272 § 53 Disturbing the Peace - By slamming his door and throwing asphalt at 01:00 AM and causing and his daughter to wake from sleep, and become alarmed and concerned, respectively.
- M.G.L Ch. 266 § 126A Vandalism to Property - By throwing a large chunk of asphalt at a metal storm door, causing the door to become dented and marred.
- M.G.L. Ch. 266 § 126A Vandalism to Property - By jumping on to the hood of the marked 544 cruiser, causing marring, scuffs, and dirty footprints on the hood and windshield.
