Brookline Recognized For Budget Presentation

A professional association has recognized Brookline's 2021 budget presentation as one of the best in the country.

BROOKLINE — A national association has recognized Brookline's 2021 budget presentation as among the best in the country.

The Government Finance Officers Association presents the annual Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, to municipalities across the US that satisfy guidelines for effective budget presentations.

Brookline has made the list annually since 2005.

To make the list, budget documents had to be rated proficient in several categories: how it fares as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and as a mode of communication. Within those four criteria, Brookline also rated proficient in the 14 mandatory criteria.

"Developing a holistic budget is a complex effort that would not be possible without the dedicated work of countless town employees and elected officials," Town Administrator Mel Kleckner said in a statement. "I want to congratulate everyone who contributed to this effort, and especially Deputy Town Administrator Melissa Goff and Assistant Town Administrator Justin Casanova-Davis for their tireless work developing this year's town budget despite the added challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic."
