Brookline Teacher Charged With Underage Sex Crimes

John Gavin was arrested Friday by Brookline detectives.

BROOKLINE, MA — Detectives from the Brookline Police Department arrested a man on multiple charges related to sexually-charged communication with minors.

34-year-old John Gavin is accused of talking online with six girls throughout multiple other states between the ages of 12 and 17. According to Brookline police, none of the girls Gavin spoke with were from Massachusetts.

At the time of his arrest, Gavin worked as a teacher at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Boston. His work history also includes being a paraprofessional at Roland Hayes School in Brookline.

Gavin was officially charged with enticement of a child under the age of 16, enticement of a child under the age of 18 to pose in a state of nudity, dissemination of material harmful to minors, and possession of visual material of a child depicted in sexual conduct. It is believed Gavin used his profession as a teacher to entice girls to send nude photos of themselves.

The Boston Police, State Police, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation assisted Brookline Detectives in the investigation.
