BROOKLINE, MA — The possible kidnapping of an 8-year-old child near Boston University Thursday afternoon was “a misunderstanding,” police said in an update.

“Thank you to all of our media partners and the public who promptly shared this information,” police Tweeted. "Thank you to the individuals who saw something and said something."

Police responded to the reported incident in the area of 700 Comm Ave around 1 p.m.

The vehicle thought to be involved was a gray Mercedes van with a ventilation bubble on the roof and several stickers on the bumper.
