Letter To The Editor: Tepid Response To Hate In Brookline

BROOKLINE, MA — The following was submitted as a letter to the editor regarding by a Brookline Town Meeting member, regarding: Brookline Select Board Condemns Hate, Harassment Of Fellow Board Member.

Members of the Brookline Select Board were 21 days late and three members short with their tepid condemnation of the "hate" and "harassment" their colleague Dr. Fernandez received.

Why didn't even one of them question and or even halt the two Brookline police officers who came before them and mindlessly excoriated Dr. Fernandez?

It was from the very outset the Select Board's inaction that precipitated the attacks that Dr. Fernandez received on social media.

And as I said in my presentation Tuesday, 1 February 2021, to the Board, the same thing happened to Deborah Brown, Raj Dhanda, and myself a year ago.

We tried to get Chair Bernard Greene to address the police department's intimidation and bullying tactics and he stiffed us by reneging on his public commitment to hold a public forum that would address police violation of their own rules, policies and procedures.

Have you ever heard of the term "Bag Lady"? It was a term the late Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr used to describe a Black woman from his district in Harlem who was an informant and or snitched to and for the police. Fast-forward half a century and think of who might fit that description in Brookline?
