"Pay-By-Space" Parking System Starts on Monday

There's a new way to park in town lots.

Parking in town can be a bit of a confusing endeavor. The town is introducing a new “pay-by-space” system in all town-owned parking lots. The Town Administrator’s Parking Meter Task Force has implemented this new system, which starts on Monday, 10.

Users of the multi-space meters will no longer have to park, get out of the car, pay for a ticket and place it on their dashboards. All spaces will have numbers, which drivers enter at the meters, along with the desired amount of time and the payment. The machines will take cash, coins and credit and debit cards. The machines cannot make change, so paying for 15 minutes with a dollar will result in the loss of $.75 cents.

Town Administrator Mel Kleckner said that this new program is another promise kept to improving the parking situation in town. “These changes will improve the overall perception of the technology, provide additional convenience for the public and lessen the maintenance requirements for the overall systems,” Kleckner said.
