Brookline police were called to a home to check on a woman, but when they got there they found 16 marijuana plants outside, they said.

BROOKLINE, MA — Police are investigating after they found 16 marijuana plants, a rifle and handgun from a Clinton Road home this week. On Monday, police were called to the home because someone was worried about a friend who was reportedly visiting. When police and EMS arrived, officers spotted several marijuana plants in the backyard, according to a social media post.
Brookline police officials say this is the first time in recent memory they've found someone in town who appears to be growing their own marijuana.
According to Massachusetts marijuana laws, you can grow up to six plants in your home, and up to 12 plants for two or more adults. You can have up to 1 ounce on you and up to 10 ounces in your home, according to the state/

"As a result of the on scene interactions the driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, not being properly licensed and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle," according to the post.
Police officers got a warrant on July 2 to search the home, based on the presence of 16 marijuana plants outside. Officers removed several bags of marijuana, a rifle, a handgun and more marijuana products, according to the post.
Charges have yet to be filed, they said, and the investigation is ongoing.
