The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

Police charged a Marblehead man with possession of fireworks, along with an active arrest warrant on June 27.

Brookline police were driving on Brook Street at about 12:48 a.m. on June 27, when the reporting officer pulled a blue Dodge Ram over failing to signal before turning left at the intersection of Brook Street and Homer Street. The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Brook Street and Hurd Road.

When the officer asked for the driver’s license and registration, the driver said he had neither, but handed the officer a California temporary driver’s permit. The driver later told police that he did have a Massachusetts license, but he forgot it at home.

The officer also asked for identification from the three other men in the car, none of who were wearing seat belts.

A query with Brookline Control of the vehicle showed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended due to an outstanding citation issued to the owner.  Brookline control also confirmed that the driver had a valid Massachusetts license.

One of the men in the car, identified as Maxwell Hill, 21, of 65 Clifton Avenue, Marblehead, had an active arrest warrant out of Lawrence District Court for speeding, OUI liquor, and marked lanes violations. Hill was placed under arrest and frisked. Officers found a plastic baggie containing marijuana.

Hill asked if he could bring his backpack to the station. Officers retrieved the backpack from the floorboard of the truck where Hill was seated. Officers patted down the bag, but could not identify what was in it. Officers opened the backpack and found two large packets of Phantom Brand “Wolf Pack” Firecrackers. Hill was issued a Town By Law citation for the marijuana, a Uniform Citation for failure to wear a seatbelt, and a criminal complaint for possession of fireworks.

Officers found an open bottle of vodka on the floor and what appeared to be a finished joint in the ashtray. Officers also found a grinder used to grind up marijuana.

The driver was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citations for operating with a suspended registration, having an open bottle of alcohol in the passenger area, not having a license in possession, failure to signal, and failure to inspect the motor vehicle.
