Woman Attacked On Beacon Street: Police Call it Hate Crime

Brookline police are on the lookout for someone who may have knocked a woman to the ground and tried to steal her back pack.

BROOKLINE, MA — Police are on the lookout for a man described as middle-aged, with a medium build and about 6-foot tall, after a woman said she was attacked while walking to her car near Dean Road.

"We are [treating] it as a hate crime," said Lt. Philip Harrington a spokesman for the Brookline Police Department.

The woman told police around 7:15 p.m. Oct. 15, she was walking to her car, which she parked on Dean Road near Beacon Street. She was crossing Beacon near the church when someone came up from behind her and shoved her. When she fell, her attacker attempted to take her backpack, shouting racial insults and threatening her.

Police said the woman fought back, kicking and screaming and the man ran off. She ran to the church and called police.

"The suspect is described as a middle age, black male, with a medium build, approximately six feet tall," police said.

When asked what ethnicity or age the woman was, Harrington said no other details were being release.
