5T: File Your Federal Income Taxes by Today, State by Tomorrow

Five things to know today.

Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

Today is Monday, April 15. Here are 5 things you need to know:

  • Mostly sunny, warm: Looks like a nice day today, especially for running the Boston Marathon. According to the National Weather Service we can expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 58 degrees. Partly cloudy tonight with a low around 39.
  • Patriots' Day: Today is Patriots' Day, a Massachusetts holiday. All state and town offices are closed today.
  • Tax deadline: Today is April 15, the normal deadline to file your income taxes. But because it is Patriots' Day that means Massachusetts residents have one more day to file their state income tax forms (due by the end of the day Tuesday, April 16). However, today is the deadline to file your federal income tax forms.
  • Marathon Monday: Around 20,000 runners will hit the streets today in the 117th annual Boston Marathon, logging 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston, ending on Boylston Street in front of the Boston Public Library. The first group (mobility impaired) will set off at 9 a.m., with the last group setting off at 10:40 a.m. Looking for a good place to watch the action? Check out this list.
