Bakery, Cafe Coming To Busy Burlington Shopping Center

BURLINGTON, MA — If you're looking for a sweet treat at the Shoppes at Simonds Park, you could be in luck.

JulieAnne's Bakery and Cafe is charting an opening in October or November. Julie Lewis, a 15-year Burlington resident, is opening the shop.

Lewis is the senior pantry manager for People Helping People, the organization that runs the Burlington Food Pantry.

"I've made a lot of strong connections throughout the town and really love being part of the community," she said.

Lewis moved to Woburn 20 years ago and then to Burlington in 2010.

"I absolutely love this town and feel that we've found the best place to raise our three kids," she said.

Lewis said she's been baking ever since she was a kid, when she would pick strawberries in the fields around her family's home and make strawberry shortcake.

From 2007 to 2008, she attended the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts Professional Baking and Pastry Program and was the bakery manager at Burlington Wegmans for years.

"While opening my own bakery has been my lifelong dream, I now have the training, experience, and opportunity to make it a reality," Lewis said.

The new shop will be on the Cambridge Street side of the Shoppes at Simonds Park, between Goodnight Johnny's and Cambridge Savings Bank.

While you can find a variety of tasty items at the bakery, Lewis said that her friends and family have said her pies are the best they've had.

"It took me a long time to perfect my handmade crust recipe, and the fillings have to be consistent and delicious as well - I will not sell a pie (or anything, for that matter) that I'm not proud of!"

Other fan favorites include her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.
