Burlington Children Still Can Apply For Youth Public Safety Academy

Run by the Middlesex Sheriff's Office, the weeklong camp is for ages 8-12, who will learn safety skills and get to meet first responders.

CHELMSFORD, MA — The Middlesex Sheriff's Office (MSO) said spots remain open for children from Burlington in Week 4 of this summer's Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA).

The MSO said the deadline to sign up has been extended to 5 p.m. on June 2. Applications are available online.

The academy is held at the MSO Training Academy, at 40 Brick Kiln Rd. in Chelmsford, and is open to children ages 8-12. Local communities are assigned a specific week at the academy. For Burlington, Belmont/Watertown, Tyngsborough and Arlington/Cambridge, that week is July 31-Aug. 4.

At the camp, children will learn safety skills, meet first responders and interact with other kids from the community.

The camp costs $100 per child, which includes breakfast, lunch, snacks and transportation. A limited number of scholarships are also available for families.

Each morning, attendees will be picked up at a designated location in their community at 8 a.m. During the first four days of camp, the children will be dropped off in the same location at approximately 2:45 p.m. A staff member will be at the pickup site to ensure each child is picked up by a parent or guardian.

On the last day, Friday, of each academy session, a graduation ceremony will be held. A parent or guardian is required to attend.
