BURLINGTON, MA — The Burlington Democratic Town Committee has announced it will be holding a caucus later this month to elect delegates for the 2023 Massachusetts Democratic Convention.

The caucus will be held at 7 p.m. on May 31 at the Burlington Town Hall Annex, located at 25 Center St. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to enter through the back entrance to the building.

According to officials, attendees at the caucus will be looking to elect 13 delegates and four alternates to attend the convention, which takes place Sept. 23 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

Registered and pre-registered Democrats in Burlington are allowed to vote during the caucus and be elected as delegates or alternates. Anyone who is not a registered Democrat and wants to be a delegate may register or pre-register during the caucus registration.

The Democratic committee said people who are unable to attend the caucus will still have a chance to be nominated as a delegate if Burlington is unable to fill all of its delegate spots at the caucus.

Additionally, the committee said that youth (ages 16 to 35), people with disabilities, people of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community who are not elected as delegates or alternates are encouraged to apply to be add-on delegates, which can be done at the caucus or by visiting Massachusetts Democratic Party website.

"Attending or running for a delegate seat at this caucus is a great way to meet people from your community who share similar values, hear from elected officials and other Democratic leaders around the state, and take the next step to getting involved in the Democratic process for the upcoming election," the Democratic committee said in a statement.

At September's convention, the Democratic party will adopt a party agenda or platform by a majority vote of convention delegates. It also will be a chance for Democrats from across the state to gather to meet fellow activists and hear from elected officials, according to the Burlington Democratic Town Committee.

For those chosen as delegates, there is a fee of $75 to attend the convention. However, there is a reduced fee of $50 offered to delegates who are students, seniors or persons with a disability.

For anyone who is unable to cover the delegate fee, the Democratic State Committee (DSC) has a way to request a partial or full fee waiver. Waiver forms are available on the Massachusetts Democratic Party website.
