Burlington High School Esports Team To Compete For State Championship
The Red Devils Gaming team will head to HELIX eSports at Patriot Place this weekend with a shot at a state title.
BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington High School is in the running for a state title this weekend via its esports team.
A week after high school football Super Bowls under the lights at Gillette Stadium this past weekend, the Red Devils esports program will help bring championship action back to Foxborough on Saturday for a slate of contests at HELIX eSports at Patriot Place.
Esports competition is now overseen at the high school level by the Massachusetts School Administrators Association.

The association boasts more than 1,200 participating players across 45 schools this fall.
School teams have options to participate in various leagues playing games such as Rocket League, League of Legends and Super Smash Bros.
Burlington’s winning esports squad this fall is playing Rocket League, winning its way to Foxborough thanks to previous success this fall and a first-round playoff win on Nov. 30 against Nipmuc Regional High School.

Burlington will kick off play on Saturday at 9 a.m. with a semifinal matchup. A win at that stage will put Burlington into the finals beginning at 10:45 a.m.
The event is open to all teams and players. Fans are allowed to attend and cheer players on. Fans can alternatively watch a stream of the action here.
Esports have soared in popularity in recent years, launching major careers and leagues at the professional level while also expanding via high school and youth programs.
Burlington Red Devils Gaming began competition in recent years.
Burlington High School separately opened a new esports arena on school grounds in 2019. Dubbed Area 123, the space doubles as what the school described in an initial announcement as an “innovative learning” space, hosting professional development programs and more.
